Mary Harold
I like to experiment with many forms of print but I also love to paint and work with textiles.
In 2009 I completed an HND in Fine Art and Textiles at Cornwall College Camborne and since then I have been going along to Plymouth College of Art attending a selection of their short courses and working from my kitchen table. I now run the Beginners Printed Textile Short Courses class at Plymouth College of Art and from time to time run Indigo & Shibori workshops there too.
I live near Okehampton on the edge of Dartmoor in rural West Devon.
My garden, the surrounding countryside, dartmoor and the coast are all areas that I love to explore.
Much of my inspiration comes from walking and being outside but I also love everyday objects especially old, found things such as chipped plates and worn cutlery - I am drawn to things that have been well used and have a history to them!
I often print onto reclaimed materials such as blankets, tablecloths and sheets. A love of decorative things, pattern, texture and colour are other elements of my work.
I am a member of the art group 'Drawn to the Valley' www.drawntothevalley.co.uk which is particularly for artists who live close to the river Tamar in Devon and Cornwall. I take part in their exhibitions and Open Studios. I also work to commission.
